The increasing incidence of colorectal cancer in adolescents and young adults (AYAs) has been progressively reported. A significant proportion of the increase was due to appendix neoplasm reclassification rather than actual trends. The increasing appendectomy rate vis a vis robotic surgery and other technical improvements has also made this trend more problematic. The report by Archie Bleyer, Lynn Ries, Danielle Cameron , Sara Mansfield, Stuart Siegel, and Ronald Barr appeared in J Natl Cancer Inst. 2025 Feb 19:djaf038. doi: 10.1093/jnci/djaf038.
